I'm Kat Oak, owner and principal massage therapist. I am a nationally certified, Licensed Massage Practitioner (WA) and I trained at the Cortiva Institute - Seattle (formerly Brenneke School of Massage.)
I sincerely love what I do! Massage is a rich, expansive field that is filled with various modalities and approaches, so continuous education is broad and exciting. With each new modality I study, I incorporate elements that I think will lend themselves well to my overall goal of providing deep, lasting relaxation and peace that also helps you feel better in your body.
Aside from massage, I love to travel, continue my education in a variety of fields, perform a little mad science behind the kitchen stove and occasionally work it out on the dance floor.
We often underestimate the toll that compounding daily stress can take on us, even to the point of failing to recognize how the hurried pace of our society impacts our body. While pain in our bodies can be the result of injuries or repetitive motion activities, it can also be caused by consistent, long-term stress that presents itself simply in how we hold our body each day.
Seeking to bridge the gap between treatment-oriented "medical" massage and the nurturing, relaxation focus of the spa experience, I work with each client to understand your needs, truly balancing and customizing each session. Your Elixir begins with a thorough intake and discussion so that I can learn about your daily routine, regular activities, any chronic pain or disorders you might experience, past injuries or surgeries that still cause you discomfort and, most importantly, what your goals are for your treatment.
My holistic approach is a blend of Deep Swedish, Myofascial Release, Acupressure, Ayurveda, Lomi Lomi and Polarity Energy Therapy. I believe in pain-free massage and warm up each area prior to performing any deep work: I find this allows for more effective treatment, as the pain response often results in an "armoring" reaction within your body and is not conducive to accessing deeper muscles and structures.
Because each session is delivered in full (i.e., a 90 minute Elixir means 90 actual minutes in session,) I often request that clients plan for 30 additional minutes to allow for intake and post-treatment discussion.
"Kat Oak is a caring, skilled and knowledgeable massage therapist. My experiences at Elixir have been very positive. Highly recommended!" -- Steve Elliott
"Kat discusses any health issues; she truly listens to determine your individual needs for the Elixir. She is present, caring and a gifted massage practitioner. Her method of gentle and relaxing massage, completely warming muscle before she begins any deep tissue work to alleviate any pain or discomfort, is enjoyable and very effective for long term pain relief." -- Jessica Likins
"Whenever I go to visit Kat, I escape my busy world and just relax. Her waiting room is very comfy and I love munching on the fresh fruits and nuts and drinking the refreshing cucumber water. I have enjoyed both the Tree of Life and Aromalomi massages and both were magnificent. Every time I visit Kat, I start stressed out and leave totally refreshed. I would recommend Kat to anyone!" -- Dave Von Gehr
"Kat is very knowledgeable, grounded, and tuned into my needs. She helps me to understand what's going on with my body and to identify habits potentially causing aches and knots. Kat does an amazing job at making me feel comfortable and relaxed at each session." -- Kerstin G. Brooks
